I just call it Microsoft GitHub these days. Does half the job of communicating the risks of it being a hard dependency for FOSS projects in particular.

@funnypanja Feel free to mute me. Not CWing something like that.

@raucao totally with you. Look what they did to skype.

@raucao @rgggn Switch to – you can import your MS Github repos there: code, wiki, issues and all that. Your Google Gitlab repos as well, AFAIK.

@raucao @rgggn :+1: That's what's driving Codeberg as well. And my local mirrors (just in case).

So for those who cannot/wantnot self-host, feel free to recommend Codeberg. Good folks, I know some of them personally. And to them it's important to stay "self sufficient" and not let the "big (bad) guys" in. Funding comes from members. They're non-profit (hopefully soon "officially recognized" so one can even reduce tax by funding them).

@raucao how long until they start to make money with targeted ads out of user data?

@raucao I like using Githubsoft to enforce Microsoft owning GitHub.

@raucao this is exactly what i say. I don't care who owns it. It is a proprietary platform for FOSS projects. It shouldn't be tolerated
