If you think there are too many competing Internet standards, wait until you learn about bicycle bottom bracket standards. And that stuff only exists to house some bearings and connect simple cranks. How many bad ideas could companies possibly have come up with, right?
@raucao the bb of my daily ride is very squeaky right now, mostly just because I don’t yet own the proprietary tool needed to replace the bearings in it 😪 blah
@htimsxela Also, press-fit BBs tend to squeak much more than good old threaded ones.
@raucao yes! I still have an old dura ace bb7600 installed in another frame— I’ve repacked the bearings quite a few times, and it still spins like a dream.
As much as I enjoy tinkering with technology, I will almost always opt for simple, well-built stuff that will last.
